Greenock, Barossa Valley, South
Australia
Located only a couple of minutes from The Sturt highway giving
drivers easy access to Greenock township. Established in the mid 1800’s and settlers by predominantly Scottish
settlers. The town has a modest population, however is soon to be boosted by further population growth as a new
housing subdivision is under development and country living for retirees and families is more in vogue in South
Australia.
The township has always been
a strong contributor to The Barossa Valley housing staff who have been employed by local wineries and
vineyards over the decades. The area is home to Murray Street Vineyard, a respected winery that markets its
wines to the international buyer. Greenock township also includes The Old Greenock Pub great for meals and aN
opportunity to catch up with friends and local chatter. There is a local mini supermarket in the township, a
local hairdressers shop and a boutique Brewery. The town is also home to a respected school and accommodation
at Greenock’s Old Telegraph Station
Barossa
Valley is richer still in
culture due to the Scottish feel of Greenock, however you will find it hard to find any tartan, but you will
find Scottish accents and in a Valley that was predominantly German heritage it is great to see even more
European makeup to this Valley of friendly people.
If you need to keep in touch with relatives Greenock has its own
Post Office and from here you can send all your letters and postcards to friends and family around the world.
Another lovely feature of Greenock is The Oval where the local
sports teams both cricket and football play their sports and local kids and school enjoys the large fields, this
also helps provide the local community with open useable green space. If your looking for somewhere for a picnic
this is a great spot. The grandstand has been beautifully restored and the entrance to the Greenock Oval is Murray
Street near Greenock 's Old Telegraph Station.
Broadband access is available in the Barossa Tourist Visitor
